Hidden Kingdom Trilogy - L. Rose
A Lost Paige is book two in the Hidden Kingdom Trilogy, the first being A Torn Paige by L. Rose. I read the first book accouple weeks ago and debated writing a review about it in my Favorites of November post but decided against it. I wanted to love this book, and in some aspects I liked it but I found it severely lacking.
This series centers around our heroine Paige Alice who in the first book we discover that she is the Ghoul Queen chosen to rule by the former queen shortly before she died. Paige meets Asher, the vampire, Nate, the wolf shifter, and Alex, the mage when she goes to meet her family at a restaurant being held captive by a demon. Paige kills the demon and comes into her power, enter man number four Thorne, the ghoul. I liked the beginning of the first book, I think it started really well but as I got deeper into it I got a little bored. Paige and her four new boys along with her hellhound Ezra end up going to the Ghoul Queens castle where Paige takes over as queen and forms a mate bond with her men and wants to change things for the better in her kingdom like the segregation of the different species but some in her newfound kingdom don't like the idea of change. Didn't see that coming. Book one is about her establishing her place as Queen and ruler of her kingdom.
I read the second book hoping it would get better but its extremely predictable and I cringed a lot. At the end of the first book the hellhound Ezra is murdered, so pretty much all throughout the second book Paige is overcome by grief and then guilt when she finds herself being happy about something else. This book has a lot of nothing. Paige is still trying to establish her rule while trying to balance her grief and lust. Her men are all trying to balance their lust and attraction to one another while doing a whole lot of nothing except having sex and processing their feelings. Book two is about as entertaining as a bad porn movie.
Hidden Kingdom Trilogy - Girl finds out she's a monster, accepts it yet doesn't understand why. Has a trusty companion hellhound who takes care of her and teaches her how to be a monster. Add in fancy castle and four sexy men, some crazy hot sex scenes that have your thighs clenching. Minor plot twists, some unwarranted self doubt and cringy moments and here you go.
I read this book sure, but did I like it? Not really. It was boring. I rushed through the last half of the book because I just wanted it over with. I'm lumping both books together in this review because they're really not that long and just like the books, I want to get it over with.
