Horror of Your Heart - M. Sinclair

So I recently discovered this author when reading Descendant of Blood. I ended up accidently skipping the first book in that series and didn't realize until after I finished that I had messed up. I actually started reading another series by the same author yesterday which is another spin off of the Descendants series. The Vengeance series is what led me to this book.
I guess what I'm saying is that M. Sinclair is a great author and has a talent for writing reverse harem's and you should definitely check her books out.
Tears of the Cosmos is a story about Lorcan and her twin brother Cormac, elves who at the young age of fifteen find out that they have the inability to be loved. This book has some seriously depressing and dark undertones so readers beware. There's a lot of substance abuse and twisted things going on in this book so if you're uncomfortable with that I suggest not reading this series. Fair warning.
Lorcan and her brother come into their powers at fifteen and leave their home to move to Los Angeles without a warning or goodbye to the friends they had. The twins rise to stardom as, I want to say classical music artist's because of the piano and violin but what I'm picturing in my head is more like Lindsey Stirling only more ethereal and intense.
So not relevant.
Bite me.
Anyway... Lorcan and Cormac are sirens. An illegal mix of star fae and water fae. They are essentially an extinct race. They have the ability to feel and know the desires of others and their instincts make them act on those desires. Their powers influence the emotions other's are feeling. Hence the inability to truly feel love from others. Except for their chosen guardians.
Yes. This is a reverse harem.
I know. I have a problem.
In book one, we see Lorcan struggling with her emotions. She's been raped, abused and emotionally traumatized. Drowning out her emotions and pain in substance abuse and a desire to finally found eternal peace with death. Unfortunately for her and her brother, immortality is a bitch when you no longer have the will to live.
There's so much more to this book and I'm battling my inner self against spoiling so much. I really do hate spoilers. I will say that some of the spelling was wrong and some of the wording was messed up and that was a little annoying but nothing I couldn't easily ignore.
Just read it, and tell me what you think.
